More details about the HTC M8

In a few months we'll most likely see new high-end device from HTC. Some of the current rumours were true, but here comes much more details you've never heard before!

Device will be named HTC One+ (codename: HTC M8) and it won't have any capacitive buttons. No more "home" or "back" buttons we get used to with the HTC One (HTC M7). Camera is probably a 6MP or 8MP module, of course with the UltraPixel™ technology and probably the new HTC ImageChip™ 3. Current rumours about double lens (for low and high lighting) might be true as well. Battery capacity is much bigger now - 2900 mAh instead of 2300 mAh in the HTC One. With just a slightly bigger screen in the HTC One+ (5") versus HTC One (4,7") we can expect much better battery life.

Chipset (SoC) is very likely to be Snapdragon 805 (instead of 800). This is a very good news because Snapdragon 800 is already quite an "old" chipset. The only problem is the drivers development by Qualcomm. Let's hope that won't stop HTC from replacing S800 with the S805.

In contrast to the HTC One, the One+ will have removable micoSD card. The non-removable microSD card in the HTC One was a source of a lot of critics from Android fans. Hopefully the design of the HTC M8 won't suffer from that.

HTC One+ will be equipped with the newest HTC Sense™ 6.0 and Android KitKat.

So what do you think? I'm already very excited and really can't wait for the HTC One successor. The HTC One won almost every award in the 2013 knocking out the competition. Let's hope the HTC One+ will repeat this great success!

To summarize:
  1. Name: HTC One+ (HTC M8)
  2. Screen: 5" FullHD 1080p covered by Gorilla Glass 3
  3. Battery: 2900mAh
  4. Camera: 6MP or 8MP with UltraPixel™ technology and double lens
  5. SoC: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 805
  6. RAM: 2GB LPDDR3
  7. Buttons: no capacitive buttons
  8. OS: Android KitKat with HTC Sense™ 6.0
  9. SIM: micro-SIM
  10. Front camera: 2.1MP
  11. NFC: yes

    3. Mike, after the Nokia patent suits, HTC won't use Qualcomm processors. They'd use st or spectrum. look at the new desire phones (500,701,600,300)

    4. Henri HTC has a close partnership with Qualcomm so they're most likely using their processors. Those phones you mentioned were made specificaly for the asian market. US and Europe will still get Qualcomm phones

  6. Lack of an sdcard was never an issue since you get about 32/64GB along with GDrive and Drop box. But to each their own.

Why haven't they made the change to nano simcards? Majority of GSM carriers offer the iPhone 5 so they have nano Sims available. I would think the smaller size offers more space for components or a thinner body no matter how small.

    1. I'm in already... I know ARHD One+ 1.0 will be out soon after launch!! Even if it takes a few weeks or months... It's a no brainer!! ;-)

  8. I hope that the HTC One+ will be as open as the HTC One. Easy to unlock, tons of great ROMs, Multirom recovery and fast updated by HTC and Android Revolution ;-)

    1. I hope not... at least the "as easy to unlock" part. It was a pain to s-off my phone (hboot 1.54). Took months before I was able to s-off, then flash ARHD... >_<

  9. Hi mike how sure are you on the 805 SoC being used as I read that chip was not being released till mid to late 2014.
    cheers

  10. I would echo Dasco question about soc used, in fact with 805 it could be a winner if it keeps the good aspects of M7, however it would be a failure to introduce with Snapdragon 800 a full six to nine months after the competition.

  11. no capacitive buttons, so how to navigate they are helpfull

  12. Up the camera pixelations would be better than current 8,plus UltraPixel on zoom shows on a pc,so failure, sort it out now,and then release m8.HTC you know I gave you what is needed last year,so bring it

  13. I hate on screen buttons, you lose so much screen real estate. That's the reason I could never get on with a nexus device!

    1. I concur. On screen buttons offer no real value. Hopefully they increased the screen estate by reducing side bezels while maintaining overall physical size. Does the removable SD card mean a removable back? I love the current unibody construction. My only gripe is that the HTC logo could have been made useful as the home button and a search capacitive button added for Google now and other phone searches. Bigger battery is always welcomed. Hope no purple tint issue with this new camera. Will beats audio be present or will they come up with some other EQ preset?

    2. I agree with all of this! So I guess the bigger screen (5") won't be a bigger screen after all... If you have on screen buttons, you should have a 5.5" display... But with the two front facing speakers, it make a pretty big device...

      Delete
    3. But...... hopefully they will do something about it. Android 4.4 Kitkat have the immersive mode that hides the buttons so if HTC make some tweaks to hide the buttons when not need. Its not really faults of them cuz if the Dev of the apps in the Play Store began to adapt the way Kitkat is suppose to be with the immersive mode and give people the option to hide the on-screen buttons will be great! So still fingers crossed :D

  14. Some of these specs sound good but I still have low expectations, one of my biggest problems with m7 is the slow nand, I download torrents and after 500kb/s the phone becomes unusable, I don't know if not having a 2k screen is a turn off because as much as I love the slcd3 it still has a lot of issues to solve before going to the next step, such as brightness, reflectivity, pixel quality, contrast, these are the things to fix and not just make it a higher number for marketing purposes, I love the capacitive buttons (one x configuration), 64 bit cpu is something that will bother us for real around 2016 that mobile devices WILL need more than 4gb of ram, even 3gigs feel unnecessary, I had a boss that told me when it's busy don't rely on extra man power, use your management skills, for now per core performance and power consumption is paramount and optimization of OS and apps would do the job, not only for now but give us a more potent system in the long run, the UltraPixel camera would be awesome in anything over 6mp, and the extra battery is something they shouldn't skimp off, I don't want the phone to be slimmer, leave it as it is and make it waterproof, with the narrow edges no-one can feel the difference no matter what they say. Sorry for the long post but I've been a true HTC fan since before there was a proper HTC brand name and despite the difficulties and wrong decisions the company deserves a break and we deserve all they can build for us to be happy, go like the HD2(the king), above and beyond anything in the market at the time. Cheers.

  19. If HTC One+ will be the name=Failure... They alredy tried it with One X and One X+. It is confusing

    ReplyDelete
  20. I would have to agree with the failure of their naming system. Do they even think of the future? How are they going to sustain such a naming system without confusing consumers. I for one was for a M series instead of a One from the start when it was rumored the M7, such as M1 and go on from there (M1+/M2.....). With a M series, the naming system would just be easier for both HTC and consumers. Plus, it would be easier when it comes to marketing. Short, simple and easier for consumers to remember, which converts to more interest and a larger brand image. I love my current One, best phone i have owned in years. I am looking forward to the M8 and hope HTC hits the competition with a hell of a phone. Show them what quality is all about. One thing i would love for them to do is decrease on the black bezel around the screen (Like the S3/S4). This would give us larger screen real estate without affecting the size of the phone. Impress me again HTC. Can't wait.

  21. My son has the HTC one max and its browser has full flash support and it's awesome. Will the HTC one+ include full flash support too? Does the current HTC one have flash support?

    ReplyDelete

    1. the htc one has flash support too.. You enable it by pressing the menu button on the stock browser..

Although its recommended keeping it turned off until you actually need it as its quite a battery hog

  22. May I ask that those spec of HTC One+ is come from the detail that you received or just your expectation ? Please tell me

  23. I am quite happy with the HTC ONE. Now there is coming a one plus with a big capacity battery and I am so excited. I usually ran out of battery and I have to buy one external battery charger from RAVPower to keep it live all the time. I look forward to that.

  24. Eagerly waiting for you one+

  25. I personally hate having on-screen buttons, they make the screen look wider (in portrait) and you loose screen space almost everywhere. I really hope the One+ comes with aluminum unibody, like the M7. I had a chance to switch it up for a LG G2, even though the G2 beats the One in almost every aspect, the looks and fast android updates of the One made me stay with the One.

    1. Actually, think of it like this. You have the same usable realestate as on 4.7 but with immersive full screen mode you gain more screen. That isn't possible with capacitive keys. So I don't see your problem. Having software nav also makes it possible to have the screen and nothing but the screen in between the stereo speakers. Besides space efficiency the costumisation possibilities with software nav are endless. You can put whatever the hell you wan in it. Heck, you can put the status bar in it if that grinds your gears or make it all pink for all I care. :)

  26. Oh my goodness...I could go on about my HTC ONE to the extent that the only people who would finish the posting would be extreme HTC fans with a masochistic tendency, so...anyhoo, the phone is a phenominal device on all levels. The ultra-pixel increase will bring about an increased zeal aimed towards photographers who really do understand the potential of said increase... I stream music for between 10 and 16 hours a day with absolutely happy ears - not only due to the inherent qualities of the beloved phone of mine, but also how the interplay of the 5.5 Sense integrates intself most harmoniously with the KitKat version. Fortunately I have had about a month to play with the upgrade as I must have been an early receiver of it...yippee! Well perhaps I am supremely biased(absolutely) towards this grand device, and being a fellow capable of clear objectivity in spite of much subjective influences, declare any improvements on this ONE to render other devices wanting, albeit as they might be "good"

  27. If it's just fractionally better then the straight One, then it's gonna be great. I have the One and I couldn't be happier. It's a great device.!!!
